Abstract

The objectives of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of extract from wild grape extract in promoting germination and seed vigor of tomato using the osmopriming technique as a pre-sowing seed treatment. Tomato seeds with an initial germination rate of 60% were soaked in freeze-dried wild grape extract at concentrations of 1, 2, and 3% for 48 hours at 25 °C, then re-dried and evaluated for seed quality. The results showed that seeds treated with 3% wild grape extract exhibited the highest germination percentage, reaching 83.33% under laboratory conditions and 97% under greenhouse conditions. The corresponding germination indices were 13.50 and 19.30, respectively, which were significantly different (p < 0.01). In addition, seeds soaked in 2% wild grape extract produced the greatest root length and shoot length (17.35 and 8.51 cm, respectively), indicating enhanced seedling vigor. The findings suggest that wild grape extract at concentrations of 2–3% is suitable for osmopriming tomato seeds to improve germination, seed vigor, and seedling growth. This approach has potential applications in organic seed production and the development of commercial seed enhancement technologies.
