Abstract

This research aims to 1) study the vegetable cultivation process and reduce wastes through the application of Lean thinking 2) develop an automatic water and fertilizer control system to increase efficiency in vegetable farm management using Internet of Things technology and
3) transfer knowledge of the automatic water and fertilizer control system to entrepreneurs and those interested in the community. The research instruments included Internet of Things technology, value stream mapping for capturing time data and fishbone diagram for analyzing causes of the problem. The data collection methos included observation form and semi-structured interview. The number of sample group was three which were selected by purposive sampling. The results showed that in the vegetable cultivation process, it was possible to reduce waiting time by 140 hours, including unnecessary movements. Furthermore, through the development of IoT technology, water and fertilizer could be controlled via a smartphone application called Blynk, enabling the scheduling of watering and fertilization. This resulted in improved farm management efficiency, reduced monthly water usage by 25 percent, decreased labor costs by 1,500 baht per month, and increased yield by 70 kilograms with better-tasting vegetables. The dissemination of knowledge regarding automated water and fertilization control systems empowers both farmers and interested community members to apply the system for their own purposes. This research can serve as a prototype for agricultural management for various other types of crops.
