Abstract

This article aims to reduce defective product in electrical motor assembly process of cast study’s company. This study determined the causes that was occurred in the production process with high percentage of defective products. The defective product can be categorize as follows: 1) bearing noise 2) chattering sound between screw and motor’s stator 3) vibrations noise and
4) motor’s stator sticking most of them were from assembly process. The analysis of production data and amount of waste generated showed that the greatest cause was bearing noise. The cause and effect diagram was used to analyze and it showed that most of defected products originated in assembly process between bearing and front cover on fixture, which can be described as 1) jig and fixture was heavily used and deteriorating 2) the design of jig and fixture can be easily misalignment during in compress process. Therefore to reduce waste and solving the problems defined the solution following, 1) jig and fixture were redesigned and 2) added supporting equipment in process for increasing precision of compressing process. After the equipment design and implementation of jig and fixture, including the use of supporting equipment, during the bearing assembly process mentioned above. The result showed that defects in compressing process was decreased by 51.30%.
