Abstract

The previous studies of Inca Nuts focused mainly on the development of its nutritious use. This research was conducted in order to examine the extraction of Inca Nuts to produce biodieselfuel for use in the diesel engine and to make a comparative test of the performance of the engine that used biodiesel gas produced from the Inca Nuts oil and the regular diesel. This study was firstly started with the Inca Nuts oil extraction with the transesterification process and it was mixed with diesel fuel to produce the biodiesel gas at the ratio of 5:95, 20:80 and 50:50 percent. Then, it was tested with performance and combustion analysis. The results of the analysis showed that the biodiesel fuel produced from the Inca Nuts at the ratio of 50:50 percen tyielded the performance at the average of engine power = 101.90 HP, wheel power = 82.60 HP and the tosses caused by the average resistance = 18.20 HP at toque of 266.50 N - m and engine speed = 2,045 rpm. From the comparison of the engine performance, it showed that the Inca Nuts biodiesel gas could make higher engine performance than the regular diesel gas at the percentage of 4.25, 7.41 and 11.12. As for the combustion analysis compared with the emission criteria for new diesel engines of the industrial standard scale (TIS.2155 - 2546) it was found that the engine had complete combustion with the measure of carbon monoxide = 0.64, 0.62 and 0.55 g/km according with the standard criteria of 0.64 - 0.95 g/km respectively.
