Saving Energy by Evaporative Cooling at Condenser of Air Conditioner
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research investigates the electric power consumption of air conditioner supplemented with evaporative cooling. The cooling pad was used to reduce temperature of air before entering the condenser. A split-type air conditioner with capacity of 24,000 Btu/h is used in this study. The tests were conducted using various water flow onto the cooling pad. The evaporative cooling can reduce the power consumption. When compare to air conditioner using ambient air-cooled condenser, the electric power of air conditioner using water flow onto cooling pad 0.2 and 3 L/min was decreased by 13.16% and 20.05% respectively. The suitable condition occurred water flow onto cooling pad 3 L/min. It could be reduced air temperature by 6.4ºC and the electric power consumption by 15 kW-h/day. Economic analysis of the system indicated that the payback period was 1 years.
