Abstract

This paper presents the design and construction of an automatic length measuring and cable winding machine controlled by microcontroller to solve the problem of a manual length measuring and cable winding. The various automatic length measuring and cable winding machine available in the market, they are large, complex and expensive. This research therefore has an idea to create a length measuring and cable winding machine instead of using human hands. Starting from the user entering the size of the cable, length to measure, price to set the default to work and will show the initial value through the LCD screen before starting the process. It use a rotary encoder sensor to measure the length of the cable which relies on the principle of turning itself around to measure the length when the set length is reached, there will be an automatic cable cutter to cut the cable apart and use a DC motor to wind up the cable. At the end of the work, the LCD screen will display the size of the cable, the price and the total length measured. It completed the work process of the system. From the test of the performance of the automatic cable cutter motor and the cutting speed, the speed can be used at levels 4 - 10 by testing all 10 levels, resulting in information that at level 4 or higher, the device can work normally. There is a tolerance of 1.25 percent when testing each size of the cable a total of 90 times with this tolerance not exceeding 5 percent.
