Abstract

This research assesses the accuracy of the voice-able device for checking cash for the visually impaired. It helps improve the confidence in the task of cash distinction. Visually impaired people often use the sense of touch to determine how much a cash is worth. The proposed device used infrared sensors to assist in this process. Once the input infrared signal is processed by the microcontroller, the device speaks out loud to the user the type of banknotes or cash. An experiment was conducted with two groups consisting of 34 normal vision people and 11 visually impaired students. The results are summarized in five aspects which are accuracy, the satisfaction of the design, sound precision, convenience and price. The results show that this device is effective and satisfactory.
