DEVELOPMENT OF ENGLISH LEARNING MATERIALS FOR INDUSTRIAL TEACHERS THROUGH TIKTOK SHORT-FORM VIDEOS BASED ON UPSKILL-RESKILL DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The rapid changes in technology and the industrial sector have increased the importance of upskilling and reskilling, particularly English proficiency, which has become essential in today’s industrial world. However, industrial teachers continue to face limitations in developing this competency, while TikTok short-form video-based learning materials have emerged as a significant learning medium. This study aimed to develop English learning materials in the form of TikTok short-form videos to promote upskill and reskill for industrial teachers and to investigate the effects of the learning materials on knowledge, English language skills, learning behaviors, and satisfaction. The learning materials were implemented with 35 industrial teachers from seven different disciplines, with five participants from each discipline who graduated from the Bachelor of Science in Technical Education Program at Rajamangala University of Technology Isan, Khon Kaen Campus, using tests, skill assessments, interviews, and questionnaires. The findings revealed that the participants were able to effectively utilize the developed TikTok short-form videos consisting of eight sets with 40 lessons, comprising 25 upskilling and 15 reskilling lessons, to improve their English proficiency for workplace communication. The English proficiency assessment scores ranged from 12.80 to 14.70 out of 20 points, indicating a moderate to high level of performance. In addition, the participants reported the highest level of satisfaction with the learning materials ( = 4.85, SD = 0.30). The lessons covered workplace communication, training and instruction, technical skills, negotiation, business communication, technology collaboration, and sustainability. The short-form videos simplified complex content effectively and supported both self-directed and lifelong learning. Therefore, TikTok short-form video-based learning can effectively enhance English proficiency and upskilling and reskilling among industrial teachers.
