The Development of a Shim Valve Adjusting Tools for the Toyota Engine 4A-GE and 4A-FE

Abstract

This research aims to create a prototype device for removing the shim in order to adjust valves in a new engine model. The device can be used to solve problems on disassembling and reassembling the shim in the workshop class of engine tune-up for TOYOTA 4A-GE, 4A-FE. A set of the prototype device is produced and let a group of experts to test the device in order to evaluate its quality. The experts are selected from 15 specialists in teaching a course of engine tune-up in Siam Technology College, 2 technical specialists of service center in Toyota Thonburi and 2 technicians of Khom Service (an automotive repair shop) who have at least 5-year experience in automotive repair work. After demonstration of the prototype device, the questionnaires for quality assessment are distributed to the expert group. The assessment result indicates that the experts have consensus opinion from agreement to strong agreement levels with the score of about 4.55 on average which is in the criterion-referenced target scores of 3.51 – 5.0. This means that the experts are unanimously satisfied with quality of the prototype device corresponding with the hypotheses of this research in that the device can be practically used to achieve the goal.
