Abstract

This study explores the development of a virtual learning environment (VLE) designed to promote understanding among lower secondary school students of chronological distinctions in the history of art in Thailand. The analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate (ADDIE) model was integrated with the technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) framework. An innovative platform, DP5 VLE, was created. The sample group comprised 120 lower secondary school students, selected by purposive sampling. Data was gathered by VLE innovation, cognitive achievement test, immersive experience evaluation form and user behavior observation form. Results 1) innovation quality was rated highest for content (equation = 4.75, SD = 0.48) and high for media (equation = 4.49, SD = 0.59); 2) student post-test cognitive achievement scores were significantly higher than pre-test scores at a .01 level (t = 26.61), with learners demonstrating very high relative gain score (GS); 3) overall immersive experience was rated as strong agreement (equation = 4.01, SD = 0.90); and 4) learner usage behavior was observed at the highest efficiency level (equation = 4.01, SD = 0.90). Therefore, the VLE may be integrated as an educational innovation prototype in diverse subject areas to boost educational quality.
