Abstract

This article presents the development of unit lesson plans based on a collaborative learning model incorporating the Round Robin technique for Mathayom 4 students in the Thai Language for Communication course, along with an examination of how this technique supports the improvement of students’ impromptu speaking skills. The research employed a quasi-experimental design and applied the Round Robin collaborative learning technique as the research framework. The research consisted of 110 students enrolled in the Thai Language for Communication course at the Demonstration School of Srinakharinwirot University (Prasarnmit Secondary). The participants were selected through purposive sampling. Research instruments included (1) unit lesson plans on impromptu speaking, (2) an impromptu speaking assessment rubric, and (3) a satisfaction questionnaire on the implementation of the Round Robin technique. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, frequency, and standard deviation. The research results revealed the following. First, the developed unit lesson plans consisted of five sessions: (1) “the first step to becoming an impromptu speaker”, (2) “a strong structure leads to success”, (3) “connecting ideas and communicating through vocal expression”, (4) “collaborative thinking to conquer impromptu speaking”, and (5) “practice for becoming an impromptu speaker”. Second, the largest proportion of students demonstrated impromptu speaking skills at a fair level (n=52, 47.27%), followed by a good level (n=46, 41.82%), followed by the need’s improvement level (n=8, 7.27%), and an excellent level (n=4, 3.64%). Third, students’ satisfaction toward the learning activities was at an “agree” level at 85.64%. The highest scoring aspect was the diversity of speaking topics and constructive guidance provided, which received 88.18%.
