TRANSLATING THAI HORROR FILM TITLES INTO CHINESE: STRATEGIES AND ANALYSIS

Abstract

Films are a popular media in our society. Using language to convey the meanings in film titles is like a logo of a product that attracts buyers. This research was conducted to study and analyze the translation strategies of Thai horror film titles into Chinese using Memes of Translation theory as a framework. The research also aimed to apply translation knowledge to translating film titles. The result of the study indicated that the most common strategy used in translating Thai horror movie titles into Chinese was the translation using the target language as the main meme, followed bythe translation using the original language and the least common strategy is dynamic translation. Additionally, each translation strategy was employed in the same and different ways.
