เร็วๆนี้ภาพความลึกหรือภาพสามมิติได้เข้ามามีบทบาทในการแก้ปัญหาในทางอุตสาหกรรม ทางการแพทย์ ทางด้านโลจิสติกส์มากขึ้น เช่น การตรวจวัดขนาดของชิ้นงาน การหยิบและวางชิ้นงาน การควบคุมการเคลื่อนที่ของแขนกลอัตโนมัติ เป็นต้น แม้ว่าภาพความลึก สามารถหาได้จากการประมวลผลภาพ ด้วยกล้องโมโน กล้องสเตอริโอ หรือเซนเซอร์วัดระยะทางแต่เนื่องจากกล้อง TOF ที่ประดิษฐ์ขึ้นเพื่อจับภาพความลึกนั้นง่ายในการใช้งาน และไม่ต้องการการประมวลผลมากนัก จึงได้รับความสนใจเป็นอย่างมาก บทความนี้มีเป้าหมายเพื่อนำเสนอกล้อง และเซนเซอร์พีเอ็มดีเพื่อกระตุ้นให้นักวิจัยตระหนักถึงเทคโนโลยีภาพสามมิติที่ทันสมัย กล้องพีเอ็มดีเป็นกล้องวัดระยะเวลาสะท้อนกลับ (TOF) ที่มีศักยภาพสูง ที่ให้ข้อมูลภาพความลึกทั้งเซนเซอร์และกล้องพีเอ็มดี ได้รับการวิจัยและพัฒนาอย่างต่อเนื่อง สามารถประยุกต์ใช้ในงานอุตสาหกรรมต่างๆ ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ อีกทั้งเพื่อเป็นแนวทางให้กับนักวิจัยรุ่นใหม่ บทความนี้จึงได้รวบรวมข้อมูลของเซนเซอร์และกล้องพีเอ็มดีรุ่นต่างๆ หลักการทำงานเบื้องต้นและการนำไปประยุกต์ใช้ในงานวิจัยทางด้านหุ่นยนต์

Abstract

Recently, the depth image or 3D imagerepresentation has increased its prevalent role insolving a wide range of issues in industries, medical,and logistics including freight measurement, pick andplace tasks, and automated robot manipulator control.Even depth images can be obtained by photo processingthrough mono cameras, stereo cameras or rangesensors; TOF cameras receive more interest sincethey are easy to use for capturing depth imagesand do not require a large amount of computingpower. The objective of this paper is to elucidate thepotential and specific aspects of the PMD cameraand sensor in order to encourage researchers torealize state-of-the-art 3D technology. ThePMD-system camera is a high performanceTOF camera that provides depth images. Both PMDsensor and camera are under ongoing research anddevelopment. The camera can be potentially appliedfor various industries. As a guide for new researchers,this article provides collective information frameworkconcerning various models of PMD sensors andcameras, foundation principles and functions, aswell as feasibility and future applications on relatedrobotics research.
