บทความนี้มีเป้าหมายเพื่อนำเสนอแนวความคิดความยั่งยืนและความคงทนของโครงสร้าง เพื่อกระตุ้นให้วิศวกรรุ่นใหม่ตระหนักถึงผลกระทบทางสิ่งแวดล้อมอันเนื่องมาจากก่อสร้างและหนทางบรรเทาผลกระทบนั้นมิใช่ตระหนักเพียงแต่ราคาค่าก่อสร้างและความเป็นไปได้ของการก่อสร้างเท่านั้น โดยเฉพาะในเวลานี้ที่อัตราการเพิ่มของประชากรสูงขึ้นอย่างรวดเร็ว จนทำให้มีการขยายขนาดของเมืองและการก่อสร้างสิ่งต่างๆ ตามมาการก่อสร้างเหล่านี้ก่อให้เกิดผลกระทบต่อสิ่งแวดล้อมต่างๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นมลภาวะทางน้ำ อากาศ หรือดิน ถึงกระนั้นก็ตาม รัฐก็ไม่อาจใช้มาตรการหยุดการก่อสร้างเพื่อลดมลภาวะต่างๆ ได้ เพราะการก่อสร้างเป็นปัจจัยพื้นฐานสำคัญอย่างหนึ่งในการพัฒนาประเทศ แต่หากปล่อยไว้โดยไม่ดำเนินมาตรการใดๆ เลย คนในสังคมโดยเฉพาะผู้ที่ได้รับผลกระทบก็ไม่อาจจะยอมรับได้ทางออกที่ดีทางหนึ่งก็คือ การสร้างความสมดุลระหว่างสิ่งแวดล้อมและการก่อสร้างให้เป็นไปตามแนวคิดของความยั่งยืน โดยการทำให้โครงสร้างมีความคงทน

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to present the concept of sustainability and durability of structures in order for new engineers to realize environmental impacts caused by construction and to find approaches to relieve such impacts in addition to considering only cost and feasibility as main factors in construction. At present, the number of population is drastically increasing, resulting in city expansion and construction, and subsequently causing impacts on environment such as water, air, and soil pollution. So far, the government has not been able to find any measures to stop construction since it is one of the fundamental factors in country development. However, if any action is not taken to solve the problem, people especially those who are affected may not tolerate any longer. An alternative solution is to balance environmental impacts against construction, basing on the concept of sustainability and durability of structures.
