เป้าหมายของการพัฒนาระบบสารสนเทศทุกโครงการคือ การทำให้โครงการประสบผลสำเร็จ องค์กรของผู้ใช้เกิดความพึงพอใจกับระบบที่ถูกพัฒนา อย่างไรก็ตามมีโครงการจำนวนไม่น้อยที่ไม่ประสบผลสำเร็จและบางโครงการถึงขั้นต้องล้มเลิกไป นักวิจัยจำนวนหนึ่งสรุปสาเหตุหลักของความล้มเหลวในโครงการพัฒนาระบบสารสนเทศว่าเกิดจาก“ภาวะการเพิ่มระดับของความรับผิดชอบ” บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อนำเสนอนิยามของภาวะดังกล่าว และอธิบายผลกระทบของภาวะดังกล่าวต่อโครงการพัฒนาระบบสารสนเทศในแง่มุมต่างๆ ประโยชน์ของบทความนี้อาจช่วยให้นักวิจัยและนักปฏิบัติเกิดความตระหนักต่อบทบาทของภาวะการเพิ่มระดับต่อโครงการพัฒนาระบบสารสนเทศซึ่งอาจทำให้โครงการที่มีทีท่าจะล้มเหลวอันเนื่องจากภาวะการเพิ่มระดับให้กลับมาเป็นโครงการที่ประสบผลสำเร็จได้

Abstract

One of the greatest achievements of InformationSystems (IS) projects development is to successfully complete the projects and provide customerswith satisfaction. Despite large amount of efforts andresources allocated to IS projects, some projects werefailed and some were even cancelled. Researchers comeinto a conclusion that “Escalation of Commitment”is a key ingredient that contributes to IS failure.This article provides the definition of escalation ofcommitment and explain the situations of IS failuredue to escalation of commitment from fourperspectives. The objective of this article is to raiseawareness of escalation situations in IS projects forresearchers and practitioners as it is the first stepto improve the efficiency of IS development (ISD)processes and prevent the practitioners from IS failure.
