Strategy of Energy Management for Khon Kaen Province

Abstract

In 2003, the figures of energy for Khon Kaen provice are 10,483.38 kiloton of oil equivalent (ktoe) of energy potential and 311.56 ktoe of energy production. The total amount of energy consumption is 658.22 ktoe which is 14.41% higher than the previous year. Most of the energy consumption is fuel oil imported from abroad at the amount of 462.58 ktoe. At present. The tendency of energy consumption continuously increases and mostly it is in the form of fuel oil The demand for the use of fuel oil is the highest comparing with the other type of energy resources. The fuel oil consumption is accounted for 70.28% of the total energy, Among economic sectors. Transportation sector is the largest energy consumer, accounted for 48.81% of the total energy consumption. Based on our calculation of an energy clasticity used as the energy index. We found that the energy elasticity of Khon Kaen province is 1.24 higher than the target of the country which is set to 1.0 Regarding to the energy-demand forecasting for the next 5 year. The energy consumption will rapidly increases when systematic and effiective energy saving plans are not taken into consideration. Therefore, the people in Khon Kaen province should be in preparation for  energy conservation, especially , reduction of energy consumed in the transportation and industrial sectors which their energy consumption is 472.04 ktoe or equivalent to 70.1% of the total energy consumption. Furthermore, developing people’s conscience related to energy conservation, engaging in a campaign and setting the energy regulation for saving electrical energy in both government service and residential sectors are important and necessary, The energy information system and energy information center are essential for collecting all energy datum Both should be established in order to monitor the energy consumption and to have an effective energy management,
