Development of a Small Boat for Collecting Water Hyacinth

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to: 1) build a small a small boat for collecting water hyacinth, 2) find the efficiency of the developed small boat for collecting water hyacinth, and 3) find the satisfaction of users towards the developed small boat for collecting water hyacinth. The research tools included a recording form and satisfaction questionnaires.

The results showed that the construction of the small boat consisted of the following parts, i.e., a conveyor belt using a 55 hp gasoline engine as a belt drive and 2 sets of sprockets. The efficiency testing of the boat was conducted for 5 days for 3 hours a day. The results showed that the developed boat was able to collect water hyacinth of 3,100-3,250 kg or 1,100-1,250 per hour. After collecting water hyacinth, the water was very clear. The users reported very high satisfaction towards the developed small boat for collecting water hyacinth.
