Machine to Separate Oil from Bilge Water

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to: 1) construct a machine to separate oil from bilge water, 2) find the efficiency of the machine to separate oil from bilge water, and 3) to study the satisfaction of the operators using the developed machine by trying 3 types of belts, i.e., velvet belts, canvas belts, and safety belts. The samples included 5 people who were a ship operator and 4 government officials responsible for ship matters in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province selected by purposive sampling technique. The research tools were experiment record forms and the satisfaction assessment forms analyzed by percentage, mean, and standard deviation.

The results showed that the machine to separate oil from bilge water was able to separate oil from bilge water up to 99.49% by using canvas conveyor belt and propellers. It was found that the different types of belts had an effect on oil separation efficiency. The users reported very high satisfaction on using the developed machine.
