Abstract
Shooting make a loud noise and it is harmful to the auditory system. This research is to study the rifle suppressors made of materials that are cheap and easy to find. They were attached to rifle M16A4, bullets fired with supersonic speed (more than 330 meters per second) without a suppressor; the average sound intensity is 126.52 decibels, measure the loudness near the test point 5 meters. The studies focused on 4 types of suppressors. Type 1 is the block the projectile’s trajectory suppressor. Type 2 is the parallel trajectory suppressor (made from oil filter. Type 3 is the parallel trajectory suppressor (made from exhaust filter). Type 4 is a combination of block and parallel trajectory suppressor. All the suppressors had been tested and their results were considered according to various factors that affect the loudness and noise reduction, for instance, sound-absorbing material, core tube, rubber sheet, and sound chamber blocked by drill the holes. When firing into the standard target at the distance of 23 meters (25 yards), each 5 shots, and the sound intensity is measuring at the distance of 5, 25, 50 and 100 meters. The results showed that type 4 reduces the noise to 103.86 decibels or reduce by 17.20 percent at 5 meters, which is the most satisfying. The test was conducted by installing the suppressors on the caliber and found that the soundproof walls has an influence on the sound reduction more than the sound-absorbing material. Keywords: suppressor, supersonic, sound-absorbing material, baffle, decibels
