NEEDS FOR CHARACTERISTICS DEVELOPMENT OF THE 21ST CENTURY HOME ECONOMICS TEACHERS IN SCHOOL OF THE OFFICE OF EDUCATIONAL SERVICE AREA, SURIN PROVINCE

Abstract

This study aimed to explore personal factors, needs for self-development, and relationships between personal factors and needs for self-development. The sample group in this study consisted of 260 Home Economics Teachers. The sample random sampling method was used in this study. Meanwhile, there was 204 respondents who response the questionnaire. A set of questionnaires was used for data collection and its index of consistency (IOC) range was 0.80–1.00 with reliability of 0.976. Obtained data were analyze by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and correlation coefficient.


Results of the study revealed that most of the respondents were female, 51–60 years old, their years of service between 11-15 years bachelor’s degree graduates. Most of them were Educational Administrator graduates followed by Home Economics. It was found that the respondents needed for characteristics development of the 21st century at a high level. Based on its details, promotion of students to be have appropriately and learnt from experience on existing knowledge was found at a highest level (gif.latex?\bar{x} = 4.51).


Results of the study also showed the following relationship : sex had reverse relationship with needs for the Communication development and Connectivity with a statistical significance level at 0.05. The difference in age had relationship with needs for the C-computer development and Caring with a statistical significance level at 0.05. The difference in years of service had a variant significant relationship (0.01) with needs for the following characteristics development : Connectivity, Caring, Creativity, and C-computer, while that of Collaboration, Constructionist, Communication, and C-content was found at 0.05.
