Abstract

This research is study the localized coating regions of hot–dipped aluminum coated steel from recycled aluminum. The specimens were polished with an angle lower than 6to display intermetallic compound region, interface region and coating region. The microstructure and phase constitution were characterized by scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive x – ray spectroscopy, respectively. The electrochemical behavior was investigated using an open circuit potential and anodic polarization measurement. The results showed that the intermetallic compound region has the less noble. The coating region was more susceptible to corrosion than the other regions. Hot-dipped aluminum coated steel can show passive film ability, shown in anodic polarization curve.
