Abstract

The reduction of leaf size was considered useful in lessening the time for compost formation. The objective of this project was to study about the criteria for the design and modification of the leaf shattering machine. Test results were drawn as follows:

1)      Forced flow hopper was recommended. Feeding speed should be 0.2-0.3 times the shattering teeth speed

2)      Shattering teeth having sharpness were recommended. Shattering teeth speed should be 40.21-44.23 m/s

3)      Concave rod spacing should be 24x24 – 32x24 mm.2

4)      Performances of the Leaf Shattering Machine were:

Working capacity                              700 – 1100 kg/hr.

Average leaf size                              4.9 – 5.4 mm.

Modulus of uniformity                  8:2:0 – 9:1:0

(Coarse: medium: fine)
