Abstract

DNS is a critical component of an Internet infrastructure.
Its correct functioning is paramount for various Internet
applications. However, very few studies have been conducted
on its performance and more so from the user’s viewpoint.
Only on 2002, an extensive study on DNS performance from a
client’s perspective was carried out at 75 different locations
around the globe mostly from Americas and Europe. The study
shed light on some of the underlying factors relating to the
latency experienced by the user and some of the ways to
improve the DNS performance. For independent validation of
the previous results, new data was collected from KMITNB
and a new investigation was carried out on a number of metrics
in order to see if the new results support the key findings of
the previous outcomes.
