Reuse of old building can be sustainably and compatibly by use transformation process which concerns on capability of adaptability towards placemaking. The paper seeks to develop a set of criteria for selecting a representative case study which can discourse variables in use transformation process. Theoretically, place identity analysed through urban anthropology, adaptability and placemaking is developed with impacts occurring after use transformation. Consequently Tha Tien as an old historic market located in the centre of Bangkok, which is in the situation of rapid growth of tourist market, shifting of urban lifestyle, integration of development and displacement, is rationally selected.
