Abstract

Fex-Ni1-x /SiO2 catalysts (x= 1, 0.8, 0.6, 0.5, 0.4, 0.2 and 0) were successfully prepared via microwave-assisted impregnation method. XRD, XRF, SEM and BET measurements ensured the success of the impregnation of Fe and Ni catalysts on SiO2 support. The catalytic activities of these catalysts were performed toward the steam reforming of naphthalene (as a model compound) at 700oC for 18 h. The main products from the reactions were H2, CO, CO2, CH4 and other hydrocarbons. Among all catalysts, Fe0.4-Ni0.6/SiO2 has shown the highest naphthalene conversion and H2 yield with greater carbon resistance. Furthermore, it was found that the influence of increasing Fe content tended to reduce the amount of carbon deposition on SiO2 surface.
